Abstract

840,051. Coal-cutter chains. HOY & CO. Ltd., A. Sept. 30, 1958 [Oct. 1, 1957], No. 30745/57. Class 24. The links 11 of a coal-cutting chain are connected together by a hinge pin 20 of special design. Thus pin 20 is prevented from movement in one axial direction by lip 22; and from movement in the other axial direction by wire 27, the pin being drilled with bore 23 and the link being formed with notch 26 so that the wire can be punched into the retaining position shown. Both pin and pin-receiving eyes of link 11 are formed with respective flats. Alternatively the wire may be punched D-shape to co-operate with two such notches 26. Wire 27 and lip 22 are made of soft metal so that the wire and pin may be punched into position in assembly and punched out of position in disassembly from the same side of the chain.
