Abstract
553,580. Pattern chains for knitting-machines. MELLOR, BROMLEY & CO., Ltd., BROMLEY, 'T. C., and SHORTLAND, A. Dec. 18, 1941, No. 16358. [Class 24] [Also in Group VIII] The timing, controlling or pattern chains for knitting-machines are composed of detachable links 1, 2, Fig. 1, some- or all of which are provided with cam formations or pins to initiate or effect changes in the operation of the machine, and are connected by joint pins secured in position by lateral clips or like fastenings. As shown, the chain consists of alternate single and double links, and the joint pins are headed at one end and grooved at the other. Alternatively the pins may be grooved' at both ends. The retaining clip 7 is preferably formed as shown in Fig. 4 of U-shape so as to engage in the grooves of pairs of pins of a single link or of adjacent links. The chain may be formed of a succession of single links and the pins extended at 16, Fig. 7, to engage the driving sprocket; or the double links may be used, and spaced by shoulders on the pins, Fig. 8 (not shown). A modification is referred to in which the pins are made in composite form comprising a central bush portion and end members inserted therein and grooved at their outer ends.
