Abstract
438,977. Shackles. PAGE, M. W. FLOOD-, Oak Royd, Tycehurst Hill, Loughton, Essex. June 25, 1934, No. 18713. [Class 24] In shackles of the kind comprising two U-shaped members 6, Fig. 1, connected at the free ends of the limbs by means forming a pivot, the pivotal connection is provided by bosses and sockets 3, 4 on the parts 6 which are inter-engaged by lateral movement. For preventing disengagement of the pivotal parts, a through bolt 7 and distance collar 11 is provided. As shown in Fig. 4, this bolt is in two parts 8, headed at their outer ends 9 and stepped at their inner ends 10 to overlap. A split pin is passed through registering holes in the collar and overlapping ends of the two part pin. In a modification, Fig. 5, the overlapping ends of the two part pin may be recessed at 14 to form a passage for the locking pins. Fig. 6 shows another locking arrangement, in which a two-part distance piece 121 is recessed into the adjacent faces of the shackle members 41, 5 and locked by a cotter pin 13<1>.
