Abstract
574,251. Forging-dies. TURNER, Ltd., A. & D., MARSHALL, R. M., and CRAWFORD, A. Jan. 21, 1944, No. 1219. [Class 83 (iv)] The usual heavy die block used in drop forging is replaced by a block 7 comparable in size therewith but formed with a recess 9 to receive a snugly fitting and relatively small insertion die 12 shown in broken lines. The recess 9 and corresponding external die face have a dovetail or like form as shown in Fig. 1, so that the die is inserted endwise and cannot move laterally. It is then secured by a dowel inserted through a hole 11. The holder may be forged from mild steel and the insertion die may be cast with the required matrix from heavy duty cast iron or be formed by machining from high tensile or die steel.
