Abstract

563,436. Making bomb or like hollow bodies. STANTON IRONWORKS CO., Ltd., and WILSON, P. H. Feb. 9, 1943, No. 2145. [Classes 83 (i) and 83 (ii).] Casting - machines.-The method described in Specification 511,735 for making high pressure containers is applied to the making of bomb or other hollow bodies with thin walls. The steel or other metal or alloy is poured into a centrifugal mould a, Fig. 5, having a cylindrical surface 1 connected to one or more surfaces '2, 3 of greater diameter. Whether these surfaces are formed in refractory material n or of metal, at least one end of the casting is defined by a refractory ring f. The casting g is forged to transfer the thickened portion g<1> to the inside as shown in Fig. 8.. If only one end of the casting is thick, a separate casting i, Fig. 4, may be welded on after forging the part g. In either case the bomb may be machined &c. If desired, the inner diameter of the casting may also be varied by varying the inclination of the mould during or after pouring.
