Abstract

558,627. Moulders' cores. BIRMINGHAM ALUMINIUM CASTING (1903) CO., Ltd., and PRITCHARD, P. July 7, 1942, No. 9391. [Class 83 (i)] In casting hollow articles of light metal, light metal alloys, or other metal, a hollow metal core is used which is so thin that, before the casting solidifies, its temperature approaches nearly to that of the cast metal, it contracts with the casting, and can easily be withdrawn therefrom. The steel core a is preferably tapered externally and made thicker towards the outer end i to which a collar d is secured. The inner end is plugged at f to prevent entry of molten metal.
