Abstract

695,393. Casting processes: moulds. SOC. D'lNVENTIONS AERONAUTIQUES ET MECANIQUES S.I.A.M. Jan. 15, 1951 (Nov. 9, 1950], No. 1119/51. Class 83 (i). Light alloy and other castings are made by pouring into a mould through a bottom gate and keeping one or more risers liquid, until the casting has solidified, by the use of a removable lagged casing about each riser. The casing comprises inner and outer walls 1, 2, tapering as shown, with glass fibre or other insulator 3 between them and this may contain electric or other heating means. The riser space 4 may be open at 6 or closed to leave a small vent. A handle 5 is provided so that the casing can be removed after solidification to allow the metal to shrink freely.
