Abstract
570,325. Casting-machines moulds. PROCTOR, W. F., and WEBB, G. W. Nov. 26, 1943, No. 19742. Addition to 568,303. [Class 83 (i)] In the pressure casting of molten or plastic metal as described in the parent Specification, one or each conduit leading from the metal pot to the die has a removable portion 6 in which is arranged a temporary obstruction 12 adapted to collapse when a desired pressure is attained behind it, i.e. in the conduit 4. The obstruction 12 may be of aluminium, if an aluminium alloy is to be cast, or of other metal or non- metal and may be slightly concave before insertion in its seating 13, being finally flattened to ensure a tight fit. The part 6 may be split to facilitate insertion of the part 12 and may be provided with a well 10 to receive the collapsed part 12. In other respects the part 6 may be shaped and arranged as described in the Specification referred to. If desired, some of the gates may be provided with thinner obstructions 12 or obstructions of different material than the others, or some may be without obstruction so that thicker or other parts of a casting cavity 3 may be filled first.
