557,205. Moulds. QUALCAST, Ltd., and JOBSON, J. E. V. Dec. 4, 1942, No. 17253. [Class 83 (i)] A metal mould having a gate with elongated cross section to produce rapid solidification of the cast metal in said gate, as described in Specification 557,204, is characterized in that a recess g is formed in the mould adjacent said gate e of such a size that the metal cast therein will prevent rapid solidification of the main body d of the casting adjacent said gate but will not prevent rapid solidification in the gate e itself The recess g shown is cylindrical but it may be of any desired shape. As shown, the recess g is arranged between the out-gate f of mould cavity and the in-gate e of cavity d.
