[Classes 83 (i) and 83 (ii)] In casting open ended bottle-or-box-like castings such as are used for making explosive shells having a bore reduced towards the open end, the metal is poured into a mould 1, having a base penetrated by a member 3 carrying a core 7 of moulding sand or the like until the core is submerged and the mould is rotated at a speed not fast enough to expose the core, the member 3 and core 7 being removed through the hole 4 after the metal has solidified.
