Abstract
549,090. Casting composite articles. WHITEHEAD, E. J. June 13, 1941, No. 7528. [Class 83 (i)] Mould and core materials; cores.-In casting low-melting-point metal, such as lead bronze, on to a shell of high-melting-point metal, such as steel, e.g. as described in Specification 371,559, the mould or core is made of material having a low melting-point and preferably not active adversely as regards the molten metal or any fluxes used. A core may be made of, or coated with, asbestos or of metal lined with asbestos or sand. This metal should preferably not bond with the molten metal and may comprise highlyoxidized, chromium-plated steel. Boric acid and cryolite flux may be poured into the mould before the molten metal.
