Abstract

810,357. Casting-processes. MORRIS BEAN & CO. Sept. 28, 1956 [Sept. 29, 1955], No. 29695/56. Class 83 (1). In casting ductile-iron, thin-sections are cast ductile by providing a layer of refractory heatinsulating-material in the mould-member to provide a thermal-barrier adjacent said sections. Said material may be hollow spheres or spherules of glass, alumina, blown aluminium silicate, blown mica, or phenolic resin, filled with nitrogen. The particles are bonded in situ, e.g. by a thermosetting resin. A facing layer of resinbonded sand may be backed with said material, which is then backed by a coarser resin-bonded sand.
