Abstract

1,268,917. Casting composite articles. INSTITUT ELEKTROSVARKI IMENI E.O. PATONA. 12 Nov., 1969, No. 55375/69. Heading B3F. [Also in Division C7] A method of hard facing components such as blast furnace parts and honing equipment in which an abrasive powder 3, e.g. WC and an infiltrant metal 4, e.g. 60% Cu-20%, Mn-20% Ni are placed in a cavity formed between the mould 2 and the surface to be coated. The assembly is heated to 800-1200‹ C. in an oxygen free atmosphere to melt the infiltrant which impregnates and bonds the powder particles. The coated body may then be aged at 400-450‹ C. for 20-40 hours. Argon may be pumped into the mould cavity to prevent oxidation and a Ti getter pipe 5 and a fused borax flux may also be used.
