Abstract
1448008 Making sintered metal foil WALL COLMONOY CORP 20 Dec 1973 [26 Dec 1972] 59218/73 Heading C7D [Also in Division B3] A sintered metallic foil is made from a mixture of a metallic powder with a particle size less than 250 microns and a Rockwell C hardness above 35, and up to 25% volume of an organic binder, the mixture being formed into a layer less than 0.020" thick which is sintered between two platens in contact with the layer. The metallic powder may be a Ni or Co based alloy which is mixed with ¢-25% of a binder of a resin in a solvent. The layer may be formed by casting, doctoring or rolling the mixture and drying before placing between the platens or it may be formed directly on one of the platens. Sintering is effected in a furnace in a non- oxidizing atmosphere, preferably a vacuum to form a sintered foil 0.002-0.01" thick which may be coined or rolled.
