1341544 Making strip BRITISH IRON & STEEL RESEARCH ASSOCIATION 31 Dec 1970 [15 Oct 1969] 50702/69 Heading B3A Metal strip, e.g. iron or steel is produced by atomizing molten metal, e.g. with a high pressure water jet, to form a powder and rolling the powder, without any intermediate heat or reduction treatment, to form a strip which is subsequently sintered. A layer of slurry, formed by mixing the powder and a liquid binder, e.g. methyl cellulose, in a complete or partial vacuum, is deposited on a support and dried. The dried layer is then removed for the rolling and sintering operations. The sintered strip can be subjected to second rolling and sintering steps to compact the strip further, and to a third rolling step for planishing the strip.
