Abstract
1,152,837. Powder metallurgy. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. July 18, 1966 [July 20, 1965], No.32264/66. Heading C7D. An impregnated sintered metal article such as an electric arc loaded contact is made by pressing and sintering a powdered metal under such conditions as to produce a surface roughness of 1-30 microns followed by impregnating the sintered structure with a lower melting point to produce a surface layer of the impregnant metal 1-10 microns thick and 30-70% by volume of the impregnated body consists of the impregnant metal. The sintered body may consist of W, Mo or Re or mixtures of these with Cu, Ag, Ni, Co, Cr or Fe the proportion of Cu or Ag being 2-10% and the remainder 0À5-5%. Examples are given of impregnating W with Cu, W/0À5% Ni with Cu, and W/2% Cu/0À2% Ni with Cu. The impregnant may also be Ag.
