Abstract

A sintered metal bonded diamond composition contains 10-70% by volume of at least one of the metals iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, silver and aluminium and at least 0.1% by weight of at least one of the metals calcium, magnesium, barium and strontium. The calcium and barium may be added as the silicides and the magnesium as magnesium ferro silicon, the powders of minus 325 mesh being mixed together, pressed at 100,000 p.s.i. and sintered in argon at 2020 DEG F. or 1850 DEG F.
