Abstract
A sintered boron nitride refractory body is made by hot pressing a powder mixture comprising 2-10% by weight of the boron nitride of a fluoride of Ca, Ba, Sr or of a fluoride of a rare earth metal, or of a chloride of an alkaline earth metal or of a rare earth metal, 0-80% by weight of titanium boride and the balance boron nitride. The powders, preferably minus 200 mesh, are mixed and hot pressed at 1600-2100 DEG C. Several examples of different compositions are given and also the mechanical strengths of the hot pressed articles.
