700,989. Foundry moulds and cores. DISTILLERS CO., Ltd., and STERLING METALS, Ltd. Nov. 30, 1951 [Dec. 15, 1950], No. 30661/50. Class 83 (1) A composite mould or core for casting metals comprises a shell of resin-bonded sand and a backing member which fits the side of the shell remote from that which is to be used for casting. The backing is provided with vent holes and may be of metal or of a bonded refractory material. If the shell is made as described in Specification 700,763, the former used for shaping the back of the shell may also be used as the backing member. A number of shells and their backing members may be assembled together to form a complete mould, the runners and risers being provided in both the shell moulds and the backing members.
