Abstract
743,340. Flasks. JONES, J. P. P. May 10, 1954 [Feb. 11, 1953], No. 3907/53. Class 83 (1). A diagonally-opening foundry flask comprises side panels detachable at or near its corners, whereby the flask size can be altered by fitting other panels of different length. The flask 11 comprises two square frames 12, each made up from aluminium-alloy corner sections 13-16 connected by cement-asbestos composition side panels 17 bolted thereto. Diametrically-opposide corner pieces 15, 16 are each in two parts connected by a bolt 20 and urged apart by a helical spring 24. Cam levers 26 pivoted on the bolts 20 have cam surfaces which co-operate with other cam surfaces, whereby the halves of each corner piece 15, 16 may be urged together against the action of the spring 24 when the flask is in use, and released when the flask is to be removed from the mould. The flask sections are positioned by dowels 19, 28. Groove-connections 36 are provided between the corner sections and the side panels. The springs may be replaced by rubber pads, and the side panels may be of metal.
