Abstract
489,084. Casting composite cylinders. FICHTEL & SACHS AKT.-GES. Dec. 4, 1937, No. 33634. Convention date, Dec. 5, 1936. [Class 83 (i)] Casting-machines; moulds; cores.-An aluminium alloy, or other light metal cylinder 3 is lined by casting in a hard metal such as iron, steel or a hard aluminium alloy. This may be done by centrifugal casting, the axis being horizontal or vertical, a core 4 being used in this case or the core may be used without rotation. The cylinder is clamped to a table 2 which may be recessed to centre the core 4 and this has a central runner 5 and ducts 8 and is preferably formed of sand or in segments of another heat-resisting material. The core may be made long to increase the casting head and preferably extends over the cylinder end to form an anchoring flange 7. The cylinder may be hot so that it is superficially fused by the cast metal and it may be enclosed in a metal mould (not shown). Specifications 464,777, 471,517, and 471,564 are referred to.
