Method and device for the production of a light metal cylinder provided with a piston barrel for internal combustion engines, the piston flange bushing being made of a harder material than the light metal cylinder, and a light metal cylinder with a gold flange bush produced by the method. The present invention relates to a method for producing a light metal cylinder for internal combustion engines provided with a piston liner,
wherein the piston liner is made of a harder material than the light metal cylinder. The method according to the invention is characterized in that the harder metallic material is poured into the annular gap between the inner wall of the cylinder, which is open on both sides, and a core inserted therein, so that '. the two materials combine by superficial melting.
The invention also relates to a device for carrying out the process, which is characterized by a support for the light metal cylinder, which support is provided with means for fastening one end of the cylinder and with a recess for inserting the core, which is provided centrally seated in the cylinder forming an annular gap.
Finally, the invention relates to a light metal cylinder with a piston liner which is manufactured according to the method according to the invention.
In order to avoid rapid wear and tear of cylinders for internal combustion engines made of aluminum or aluminum alloys, it has been proposed many times to coat the piston running surface with a harder layer. For example, the known metal spraying process has been recommended for this purpose using appropriate precautions in order to form a layer of iron or other metal in this way.
Furthermore, galvanic deposits of hard metals have been carried out on the running surface, or iron or steel liners have been pressed into the bore of the cylinder by means of hydraulic presses. However, all of these methods suffer from the inadequate connection of the coating forming the piston running surface with the actual light metal cylinder and the inadequate dissipation of heat when the engine is working.
The stated disadvantages are to be eliminated by the present invention. The liquid metal is preferably poured through a central bore in the core and expediently passes through subsequent channels leading to the cylinder wall at the un tern end of the bore in the annular gap between the cylinder and like, in which it rises to the upper edge and meets the inner surface of the cylinder made of light metal, whereby an alloy between the two materials can arise on the surface. This results in better heat transfer to the cooling fins of the cylinder.
The connection between the various materials can be improved by the fact that the cylinder with the core is quickly rotated around its axis during the pouring of the material for the piston liner, whereby the centrifugal force causes the liquid metal to enter the annular gap and against the Inner surface of the cylinder is driven and, moreover, a denser coating is formed.
In the accompanying drawing, a device for executing the method for manufacturing the piston liner is shown in section, for example. The figure also shows means for using the sling.
The light metal cylinder 3, made of aluminum or an aluminum alloy, which is open on both sides, is fastened by means of clamping blocks 9 on a carrier 2, through which its un teres end is also closed. The optionally multi-part core 4, which is provided with a central bore 5 serving as a central sprue, is inserted into the bore of the cylinder.
Between the inner surface of the cylinder 3 and the lateral surface of the hernia 4 there remains an annular gap 6, the width of which depends on the desired thickness of the piston sleeve and on the flowability of the metal used to form it. The metal of the piston liner is harder than that of the
Light metal cylinder; it can be made of cast iron, steel or some other hard metal or alloy, such as a hard aluminum alloy. The liquid metal is introduced through the bore 5, whereupon it enters the annular gap. The two materials then combine by superficial melting.
At the upper end of the cylinder, which is closed from a shoulder of the core, an extension 7 of the cylinder bore is provided to form a flange that still particularly anchors the sleeve in the cylinder. In the vicinity of the lower end of the bore 5 arranged in a plane radial connection channels 8, which make the connection with the lower part of the gap 6 and are arranged near the lower end of the cylinder.
For precise centering, the carrier 2 is provided with a recess into which the lower end of the core 4 engages, while above the core engages the cylinder at the upper end and the upper end of the gap closes ver.
The device shown can also be used for centrifugal casting in that the carrier 2 of the cylinder, which is fastened on a vertical shaft 10, is rotated rapidly around the cylinder axis. As a result, the liquid metal in the channels 8 is conveyed to the outside with greater pressure, so that it rises more quickly in the gap and is compacted in it.
The use of the special device for pouring in the metal has certain advantages. The core 4, which can be fixed in any way in the cylinder, can be designed to be of any length towards the top in order to obtain a high casting head. The core is expediently made of a heat-insulating material in order to prevent rapid cooling when pouring.
For this purpose it can be made of a fire-resistant material, e.g. B. sand, clay, metal, be shaped. In the first-mentioned case, it can be easily removed by shredding, while when using one made of a rigid material, e.g. B. cast iron, existing core of this is made in several parts, and the dividing joint is approximately in the plane of the surface of the disc 2 and preferably goes through the plane of the channels 8, the two parts of the core are mortised together. You can then pull the upper part, the outer surface of which is appropriately slightly conical, upwards.
The radial channels 8 can also be located at a higher point on the core, but advantageously in such a way that the metal flows into the gap in the lower half of the cylinder.
The connection between the various materials selected for the cylinder and the piston liner can, if necessary, depending on the type of metals used and the temperature of the metal to be cast, by bringing the cylinder to a temperature before casting the liner in which its inner surface is just made to flow by the poured metal.
