Abstract

570,727. Hardening copper alloys. LANGLEY ALLOYS, Ltd., EVANS, F. C., and RICHARDSON, W. H. Jan. 19, 1944, No. 1016. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] Copper base alloys containing 0.5-5.0 per cent of nickel, 0.4-1.25 of silica corresponding to a quarter of the nickel amount and 0.05-0.5 of manganese, the remainder being copper, are hardened by a single-stage heat treatment at 300‹-600‹ C. Grain refining elements such as cerium, niobium, titanium and vanadium in amount up to 1 per cent may be included in the alloy.. In an example an alloy containing 2.4 per cent of nickel, 0.6 of silicon and 0.1 of manganese is subjected to heat treatment for five hours at 500‹ C. Specification 535,921 is referred to.
