Abstract
576,230. Alloys. HALL, H. C., and' BRADBURY, T. F. April 6, 1944, No. 6509. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] Alloys of the following composition are suitable for casting nickel 0.6-1.25 per cent; silicon 2.0-3.0 per cent; iron 0.7-1.3 per cent; magnesium 0.1-0.2 per cent; titanium 0.05- 0.22 per cent ; zirconium 0.015-0.17 per cent ; copper 0-1.6 per cent; manganese 0-0.2 per cent; silver 0-0.25 per cent ; zinc 0-0-5 per cent; and the remainder aluminium. One or more of the following antimony, niobium, molybdenum, tantalum, tungsten and vanadium, may be present up to 0.15 per cent individually and not more than 0.30 per cent-in total. A suitable ageing or precipitation hardening treatment comprises heating to from 150‹ C. to 220‹ C. for from 2-24 hours. For small parts this may be preceded by solution treatment at 530‹C.-560‹ C. and the castings may be subsequently quenched.
