Abstract

A precipitation hardenable austentic alloy having high rupture strength at elevated temperatures has the following composition in percentages by weight. .Ni.20 to 35 .Cr.7 to 23 .Mn.0.3 to 2.5 .Si.0.1 to 1.5 .Mo and/or W.1.25 to 3.5 in total .Ti.1.6 to 3.5 .B.0.005 to 0.5 .V.0 to 0.5 .Al.0 to 0.4 .C.less than 0.1 .Co.0 to 20 .Fe.the balance The alloy may be prepared by melting Fe, Ni, and Mo, in an induction furnace, protected by an inert slag and deoxidized by the addition of a Ca-Si alloy. Fe-Cr and Fe-Ti or pure Cr and Ti, Mn, V and Al are added and the melt is stirred electromagnetically. Fe-B is added just before casting. After forging, parts made from the alloy may be solution heat treated at 980 DEG C. to 1200 DEG C. and aged for at least 10 hours at 620 DEG C. to 780 DEG C.
