570,355. Magnetic separators. LUMSDEN MACHINE CO., Ltd., BLAKE, E. G., LUMSDEN, W., STAINER, J. H., and BLAKE, A. H. Dec. 13, 1943, No. 20829. [Class 72] A magnetic separator for removing ferrous particles from water comprises a mild steel plate a attached by spaced studs to the flanges b' of a circular plate b having a boss b<2> mounted on the end of a shaft c carried by a bearing d and revolved through gearing g<1>, g<2> by a motor h. Rings of permanent bar magnets e are secured to the plate b, the holes e' of the magnets being surrounded by brass rings f and the faces of the latter and the poles lying in the plane of the face of the disc a. The collector comprising the discs a, b dips into a narrow passage m<1> in the channel m in a box j through which the water flows and the ferrous particles adhering to the poles are removed by a stationary scraper n as the collector is rotated. The collector may be inclined to the vertical and the magnets may be U-shaped.
