Abstract

768,605. Magnetic separators. SALA MASKINFABRIKS AKTIEBOLAG. April 14, 1955 [April 15, 1954], No. 10782/55. Class 117 In Figs. 1 and 2, a magnetic separator for granular materials comprises a non- magnetic drum 7 mounted on a shaft 6 and housing a magnet assembly consisting of a plurality of permanent magnets 5 secured to a hub 4. Adjacent poles of the outer ends of the magnets have differing polarities and the assembly is secured to a hollow shaft 2 which, by means of gearing 9, 10, 12, 14, is rotated in the same direction as the drum 7. but at a lower speed, when a pulley 8 is rotated. The non-magnetic constituent of the material to be separated is thrown off the drum 7 by centrifugal force and collected at 17. the magnetic material being carried round until removed and collected at 19. The magnet assembly and the drum 7 may revolve in opposite directions or the assembly may be stationary as a result of lateral displacement of the gears 10, 12 which are thus disengaged from gears 9, 14. In Fig. 3, a stationary magnet assembly 3<SP>1</SP> in a rotatable non-magnetic drum 7<SP>1</SP> is contained in a housing 21 having a portion 22 for collection of non-magnetic material a portion 24 for magnetic material, and a portion 23 for an intermediate grade of material; baffles 29, 31 are adjustable. The separation of fine powder may be facilitated by an air jet directed against the drum.
