Abstract
6 0 3,0 8 3. Rotary filters. BARNES DRILL CO. Oct. 24, 1945, Nos. 20629 and 20630. Convention dates, Oct. 22, 1943, and June 17, 1944. [Class 46] [Also in Group II] In a method of treating liquid which has been used as a coolant in an abrading operation on magnetic material and which has both magnetic and non-magnetic material particles entrained therein, a stream of the liquid is subjected to a magnetic field to collect the magnetic particles in a mass or masses and the non-magnetic particles are filtered out by causing relative movement between the liquid and the magnetic mass or masses. As shown, the magnetic particles are continuously collected as masses 55 at the elongated holes 32 of equally spaced magnets 31 mounted on the inner side of a brass skin 25 of a slowly rotating drum 14 from the liquid which flows through a narrowing channel 13, the masses 55 serving as pads to filter out the non-magnetic particles. In a modification Fig. 7 the magnets 92 either permanent or electromagnets may be mounted beneath a trough 90 and grid bars 95 suspended from a hinged lid 97 concentrate the magnetic field and define the stream of liquid, the separator in this case being intermittent.
