524,075. Magnetic separators. MULLER, G., and WAGNER, H. Jan. 19, 1939, Nos. 1884 and 1885. Convention dates, Feb. 26, 1938, and Jan. 11, 1939. [Class 72] In an apparatus for separating iron from foundry and casting-cleaning residues, the latter are fed into a trough 13 surrounding an endless belt 2 which carries them and hurls them against the lower part of a magnetic drum 8 driven by belt 9 from the roller 4 of the belt 2. The drum 8 rotates round a stationary magnet 10 and the iron is carried by the drum and deposited in a slotted shoot 11 from which they pass to a receptacle 12. Any sand carried along by the iron falls through the slots 16 in the shoot 11. In a modification the iron adhering to the drum 8 is carried away by a conveyer belt which may be provided with slats, projections or rivets of iron, before it is deposited in the shoot 11.
