Abstract

702,729. Magnetic separators HOGANASBILLESHOLMS AKTIEBOLAG. Oct. 20, 1952 [Oct. 20, 1951] No. 26274/52. Class 117 An electromagnetic separating drum is energised from poly-phase A.C. to provide a moving field travelling with or against the direction of rotation of the drum. The drum comprises a plastic or rubber sleeve 31 enclosing dynamo-ring laminations 3 assembled on a spider 9 and having windings arranged in peripheral slots 5, and energised through slip-rings (not shown). The material to be separated is fed into a hopper 32 and drops on to the drum. The magnetic components are oscillated and moved by the travelling electromagnetic field which loosens the material without releasing the magnetic components. Non-magnetic material drops off the drum and may be assisted by a blower 46. Dust is removed by a suction head 43. The magnetic material may be removed by a brush 35. Modification.-Instead of enclosing the drum in a plastic sleeve, it may form a pulley for a non- magnetic conveyer belt Fig. 3 (not shown).
