Abstract
522,294. Magnetic separators. ARMOUR, A. M., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Dec. 9, 1938, No. 36026. [Class 72] In, a magnetic separator for treating fluids, permanent magnets 2 with interposed pole pieces 3 are mounted on stud 5 of non-magnetic material which is screwedinto a base '1 of mild steel mounted on a stud 5 of plate 11 of a chamber 8 through which the fluids now, the treated liquid leaving by a pipe 9. The magnets are held in position by a conical or flared cap 4 formed of high coercivity magnetic material and a screw 7 and the stud 5 is held against rotation in the base 1 by a taper pin 6. The pole pieces 3 are provided with tapered ends which project into the fluid and are made so that the field between adjacent poles is much stronger at the end of the opening between them nearest the magnet 2 so that the magnetic material is attracted into the openings and held at its base.
