Abstract

Pentaerythritol tetranitrate is obtained in granular form by dissolving it in a solvent, concentrating the solution to saturation point, and cooling the solution with agitation to about 20 DEG C. or preferably to about 0 DEG C. Suitable solvents are acetone, isopropyl acetate, isobutyl acetate, methyl alcohol, ethyl acetate and nitromethane. An antacid such as sodium or ammonium carbonate may be added to the solution to ensure the stability of the product. Examples are given.
