Abstract

The invention comprises 2,2-dinitropropane-1,3-dinitrate-<FORM:0932671/IV(a)/1> which may be prepared by reacting in liquid phase 2,2 dinitropropane-diol and concentrated nitric acid or a mixture of concentrated sulphuric and nitric acids, which has preferably been cooled down to 0 DEG C. Examples are given. The ester may be used as an explosive or rocket propellant.
