Abstract
e -Caprolactum is prepared by reacting hexahydrobenzoic acid or an ester thereof with nitrosylating agents capable of providing NO+-ions, in the presence of sulphuric acid or oleum, nitric acid being added to the reactants, preferably in amount not exceeding 10% (molar) of the nitrosylating agent present. The preferred reaction temperature is 50-100 DEG C. Examples use nitrosyl sulphuric acid as nitrosylating agent.
