Abstract
e -Caprolactam is produced by reacting a cyclohexyl compound RX or RCOY, where R is cyclohexyl, X is the carboxyl group or an ester thereof, and Y is an aromatic or alicyclic hydrocarbon radical, with nitrosylating agents capable of providing NO+-ions in the presence of sulphuric acid or oleum, characterized by the addition of oxygen or a gas containing it (e.g. air) to the reactants. Examples employ hexahydrobenzoic acid, oleum, N2O3 and air. Specifications 904,302, 904,413 and 912,034 are referred to.
