Abstract
Nitrofurfurylidene-hydrazine compounds are prepared by nitrating a N2-substituted-N1-furfurylidene-hydrazine with a mixture of concentrated nitric and sulphuric acids in a substantially anhydrous medium free from acetic anhydride, preferably at a temperature not above 5 DEG C. The anhydrous medium may be concentrated sulphuric acid. Specified products have the formula <FORM:0881375/IV (b)/1> where A is a ureido, 2,4-dioxo-1-imidazolidyl, or 2-oxo-3-oxazolidyl radical. The starting furfurylidene-hydrazines may be prepared by condensing furfuraldehyde with the appropriate substituted hydrazine; the preparation of N-(2-furfurylidene)-1-aminohydantion and N - (2 - furfurylidene) - 3 - amino - 2 - oxazolidone is described. Specification 735,136 is referred to.
