Abstract
Novel ammoniated mercury salicylate is obtained in a process characterized by adding ammonia to a suspension of mercury salicylate in an inert solvent, or mixing ammoniated mercury HgNH2Cl and salicylic acid in an inert solvent and adjusting the pH of said mixture to a pH range of between pH 8.5 and pH 10.5, with an alkaline metal compound; allowing the mixture to stand while maintaining the pH of the mixture at said pH range and recovering the formed ammoniated mercury salicylate. Pharmaceutical compositions having anti-septic and germicidal activities are employed in the form of a powder, suspension, solution or ointment.
