Abstract
568,841. Surface condensers ; indirectly heated steam boilers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Nov. 4, 1943, No. 18289. Convention date, Nov. 4, 1942. [Classes 64 (iii) and 123 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVI] A condenser boiler comprises a shell 10 with an opening 19 for receiving fluid to be cooled, a drum 22 vertically disposed within the shell, and tubes 25 disposed about the drum and connected at their ends to lower and upper parts of the drum 22. Mercury vapour from a mercury turbine 16 enters the shell 10 through the annular passage 19 between the cylinder 13 and the disc 20 which is supported by horizontal and vertical webs 21, 21a which also act as guides for the vapour. The latter condenses on the tubes 25 and the condensate is withdrawn through a conduit 36. Water is supplied to the drum 22 through a pipe 28. Non-condensables such as air are withdrawn from the shell through openings in an arcuate pipe 32 which forms a branch at the end of the pipe 30 and extends through the walls of the pipe 28.
