Abstract
555,784. Condensers; heating steam boilers by vapour. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 30, 1942, No. 18513. Convention date, Jan 1. [Classes 64 (iii) and 123 (ii)] Mercury vapour flowing downwards through a casing 10 is condensed by sinuous steam-generating tubes 32 arranged in spaced vertically inclined rows. The condensate is discharged through pipes 16, 17 into a sump 18. The shell is strengthened by annular channel-section members 19 into which vapour flows from the shell through openings 22 to heat the members to the same temperature as the shell and affording a path for the condensate in the event of the pipes 16, 17 becoming clogged. Air and uncondensable vapours carried by the mercury flow beneath inclined plates 27 at the sides of the steamgenerating tubes and are removed through perforated pipes 45. Water is supplied to the steamgenerating tubes by a pump 47 and steam is delivered into a conduit 49.
