Abstract

567,709. Preserving wood &c. BOLIDENS CRUVAKTIEBOLAG., and HAGER, B. O. Jan. 28, 1943, No. 1483. [Class 140] A preservative for wood or other organic material comprises an aqueous acid solution or paste containing (a) arsenic acid and/or alkali arsenate ; (b) hydrofluoric acid and/or alkali fluoride; (c) chromic acid, a chromate or a bichromate ; and (d) a metal salt or salts capable of forming both difficultly soluble arsenates and difficultly soluble fluorides. Soluble salts of calcium, magnesium, zinc, aluminium, or copper may be used, zinc, aluminium and copper salts being effective for fixing arsenic acid. Calcium and magnesium salts will fix both arsenic acid and hydrofluoric acid, but are preferably used with one or more of the others. A solution in water of a mixture of sodium dichromate, aluminium sulphate, zinc sulphate, sodium hydrarsenate, orthoarsenic acid, sodium fluoride, and calcium nitrate or magnesium sulphate may be used. Silicic acid, carbohydrates, or casein may be added to modify the viscosity.
