Abstract

Fixable wood preservatives contain an alkali metal dichromate, an alkali metal chromate or chromic acid, at least one alkali metal or ammonium fluoride in an amount such that there are four to twelve atoms of fluorine to each atom of chromium and a cadmium compound in an amount between 1 and 10% by weight, referred to the total weight of the preservative, said cadmium compound being a water soluble cadmium salt or a compound forming such a salt in an acid medium. The alkali metal fluorides may partially be replaced by alkali metal primary secondary or tertiary arsenates. The compositions may additionally contain acid materials e.g. hydrofluoric acid, which may be in the form of difluorides, arsenic acid and its anhydride, sulphuric acid, acid sulphates, phosphoric, boric, hydrofluoboric, oxalic, formic, acetic, tartaric, citirc, or p-toluene sulphonic acids. Specified cadmium compounds are the sulphate, fluoride, chloride, bromide, nitrate, formate, acetate, oxide, hydroxide and carbonate.
