Abstract

Wood preservatives comprise an alkali metal and/or ammonium fluoride and/or bifluoride and alkali metal and/or ammonium chromates and/or bichromates, the amount by weight of alkali metal ions to ammonium ions being so adjusted that the formation of free ammonia or ammonium hydroxide is possible when the composition is in aqueous solution. Other ammonium compounds having insecticidal or flame retardant properties e.g. ammonium borate, arsenate, oxalate, benzoate, salicylate or phosphate, or ammonium sulphate may be present. Arsenic acid, arsenic oxide or arsenates and potassium sulphate or phosphate may be included.
