Abstract

A wood preserving composition comprises a biocidal Cu and/or Zn component, a fluorine component and a chromium-oxygen component in the form of water-soluble compounds in which the chromium has a valency of 6, the fluorine being in the form of a complex boroboro fluoride and/or silico fluoride and the Cr: F atomic ratio being at least 3:6. The composition ingredients may be selected from Cu or Zn oxide and/or salts; Na, K or NH4 borofluoride or silicofluoride, Mg silicofluoride; Na, K and NH4 chromate or dichromate, chromic acid or anhydride; and Cu or Zn borofluoride and/or silicofluoride.
