Abstract

566,820. Greenhouses, garages, poultry houses, &c. WATSON, F. May 19, 1943, No. 7947. [Class 20 (i)] A metal-framed building, e.g. greenhouse, garage, or poultry house, comprises two end members each consisting of a framework made of angle-sections, at least one of the end-members including a door, and two side walls detachably connected to the end members, a ridge member connecting the tops of the two end members and being connected with angle-section rafters which are integral with uprights of the side walls. A greenhouse has ends 8 framed of T-section metal members welded together, with an opening for a door 10 also formed of welded T-section bars. The side-walls 1 are made of T-section metal bars 2 bolted together to form rectangles, and the uprights 4 of the rectangles are extended upwardly and bent to form rafters 5 by cutting the web of the T -section at the eaves. The tops of the rafters are bolted to a ridge 7 of inverted V-section which is coupled by plates 11 to the end members 8. Windows 14 may be fitted. The upper parts of the walls and the roof may be glazed, the lower parts of the walls being provided with panels of asbestos-cement or galvanized iron. Knee-bracing 12 may be provided for the side walls and rafters and horizontal ties 13 between opposite rafters may also be fitted. The greenhouse may be provided with angle members 17 running the length of the greenhouse to support shelves 18 of corrugated sheeting, and with strips 21 having holes for tying up plants. Gutter-brackets 19 also may be fitted. The greenhouse may be erected on the flat roof of a building, or the lower panels of the walls may be replaced by brickwork. Specification 460,853 is referred to.
