Abstract
566,431. Bolts &c. PAUL, J. M. Aug. 3, 1943, No. 12550. [Class 89 (i)] Castellated nuts are locked on slotted bolts by means of washers provided with radially-extending tabs, at least one of which differs in length from the remainder, that are bent up over the nut and interlocked to lie in opposed castellations in register with the slot in the bolt. The washer 1, Fig. 1, is placed on the bolt with the tabs 2, 3 in the plane of the slot in the bolt. A plain washer 6 is superposed and the nut tightened, the washer 1 being prevented from rotating. The longer tab 3 is bent over the nut and across the slot 4 and the shorter tab 2 is bent up, turning up also the end 8 of the tab 3. The tab 2 is then folded tightly over the end 8 and the upstanding interlocked ends are bent down into the slot. In a modification, the bolt has an axial slot, the washer then being provided with an internal tongue to engage this slot and ensure correct positioning of the washer in relation to the bolt. The washer 6 may be dispensed with.
