Abstract

831,377. Locking nuts. ROHE, F. W. April 21, 1958 [Jan. 20, 1958], No. 12574/58. Class 89(1) A locking-cap 13 for securing a nut 11 against rotation on a bolt 10, comprises axially extending internal broaching teeth 15 to cut into the threads of the bolt and tabs 17 engageable with the nut to prevent unscrewing of the nut and withdrawal of the cap. Some of the tabs have turned down tips 20 to snap into a groove 12 in the nut, and prevent withdrawal of the cap. In a modification for use with cylindrical nuts having spaced circumferential projections 24, Fig. 4, the tabs 18 engage between the projections, some of them, with T-heads 26, being deflected before snapping into positions behind the projections 24. For nuts with more widely spaced projections, two tabs (Fig. 7, not shown), engage between some of the adjacent projections and a single, turned down tab between others.
