Abstract

1334023 Safety closures EYELET SPECIALTY CO 19 April 1971 [22 July 1970] 24886/71 Heading B8T A safety closure, e.g. of resilient plastics material, has an inner member 16, having an internal thread 22 engaging with the external thread 15 on the neck 13 of the bottle 11, and an outer member 17 which is able to move axially relative to the member 16 and having resiliently deformable downward projections 26. In the absence of axial stress, the resilience of projections 26 causes the two members to have the configuration shown, in which relative rotation of the two members 16 and 17 is possible, thus preventing removal of the cap. If the outer member 17 is depressed, the projections deform radially outwardly by camming engagement with the sloping surface 27 of the inner member 16, thus bringing into engagement the teeth 29 on the member 16 and the teeth 30 on member 17. Unscrewing torque can then be transmitted to the inner member and the cap can be removed. Optionally, ratchet teeth may be provided on the inner member, Fig. 5 (not shown), whereby the cap may be screwed on by the action of abutment elements (37) on the outer member 17, upon the clockwise rotation of the outer member 17. Escapement occurs upon anticlockwise rotation of member 17, which must be depressed as above to unscrew the cap.
