Abstract

1,240,431. Safety closures. M. D. ALLISON. 10 Feb., 1970 [10 Feb., 1969; 11 Dec., 1969], No. 6322/70. Heading B8T. A safety closure for a container, comprises a screw cap 42, and a threaded split ring 28 which is fitted to the neck 10 of the container 12 so that it can freely rotate. The ring has a slot 34 which can co-operate with a lug 22 on the neck of the container. The lug 22, situated on a flat (20), Fig. 4 (not shown), slot 34 will not co-operate unless the skirt of the cap 46 is pressed to force the lug 22 into the slot. In other embodiments the notch may be provided in the neck of the container and the lug may be provided on the ring. A split spring (64), Fig. 7 (not shown), may also be provided, so that it co-operates with grooves (68) and (60) in the neck of the bottle and the ring to prevent rotation of the ring in the tightening direction of the cap, but permits free rotation in the untightening direction of the cap. The ring may also be supplied with a flange 40, Fig. 6 (not shown), to permit the ring to be held by the fingers. Marks may be provided on the container and on the ring flange 40 to indicate when the lug 22 and the slot 34 are in alignment.
