Abstract

1377785 Safety closures OWENS-ILLINOIS Inc 8 Feb 1972 [20 Sept 1971] 5814/72 Heading B8T An internally screw threaded metal or plastics cap 12 is screwed on to a threaded container neck (not shown) by rotating an encircling plastics cover 10 whereby leaf springs (18), 19, 20, (21), (Fig. 3, not shown) engage lugs 34, (35) 36, 37 on the top of the cap so that the two parts 10, 12 rotate together and is unscrewed only by depressing the cover 10 against the leaf springs so as to axially displace it relative to the cap 12 prior to turning the cover 10 in the unscrewing direction whereby splines 22 on the inner surface of the cover 10 engage splines 32 on the outer surface of the cap 12. If the splines are not first engaged and the cover 10 is rotated in the unscrewing direction the leaf springs slip over the lugs in the manner of a ratchet mechanism. The leaf springs are moulded on to the underside of the cover 10.
