1405240 Unscrewing screw caps STELLA KG 22 March 1973 [22 March 1972] 13946/73 Heading B3N [Also in Division B8] A key 11 is adapted to unscrew the closure 3 from a container 1. A plastics cap 3 (Fig. 1) has a female thread 3c which mates with a male thread 2 on the container 1 and serrations 10 into which female serrations 12 in the key 11 locate. During removal of the cap 3 a downward force must also be maintained to counterbalance the upward force component from the non-parallel serrations 10, 12. A lip 6 at the open end of the cap 3 springs over a bottle projection 5 during tightening down and a frangible ring 8 is finally added. This ring adds to the initial tightness of the cap 3 and its subsequent absence indicates that the container has been opened. Bayonet lugs may replace the screw threads and a sealing disc 4 may be used. A second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), is for use with an unthreaded container. A plastics ring 33 with J-section 33a, 33e is sprung over the neck 22 of the container 21. A cap 23 is threaded into an annular gap 33c by use of a key 31 after mating the internal serrations 38 with the external serrations of the cap 23. To counteract the free rotation of the ring 33 on the container 21, the cap 23 is removed by relative rotation between the key 31 and the ring 33 using the purchase provided by the external serrations 31a and 33d.
